About Lake Granby

Lake Granby is a large reservoir on the southwest edge of the park area, listed here at 8,280 feet and road-accessible near Grand Lake. NPS information about the East Shore Trail identifies Lake Granby, like Shadow Mountain Lake, as part of the Colorado-Big Thompson Project.

It is not a tucked-away hiking lake. Lake Granby helps explain the west-side water landscape around RMNP: big reservoirs, the Colorado River system, and park-edge access rather than narrow alpine drainages.

NPS park materials identify the west side around Grand Lake and Kawuneeche as part of the Colorado River side of the park, a broader valley landscape than the tight east-side cirques.
