About Timber Lake
On the map, Timber Lake belongs to the Kawuneeche Valley (West) section of Rocky Mountain National Park, at 11,080 feet on the west side of the Continental Divide. In this guide it is treated as a hard lake.
The Kawuneeche Valley is the west-side Colorado River corridor, with broad valleys below remote alpine basins. It is a west-side lake, good sunset views. The approach from Timber Lake TH is 4.8 miles one-way and belongs in the hard tier for this guide.
NPS park materials identify the west side around Grand Lake and Kawuneeche as part of the Colorado River side of the park, a broader valley landscape than the tight east-side cirques.
