About Sandbeach Lake
Sandbeach Lake is a hard Wild Basin hike to a lake with an unusually sandy shoreline, 4.2 miles one-way from Sandbeach Lake Trailhead and 10,283 feet above sea level. The name is literal enough to be useful: this lake does not feel like most boulder-edged alpine tarns in the park.
NPS hydrology materials note that old reservoir works at Sandbeach and Pear Lakes were removed in 1988. The lake today is best understood as both a distinctive Wild Basin destination and part of the park's restored high-country water history.
NPS wilderness-site data also lists Sandbeach Lake in the Wild Basin Area: 4.2 miles from the trailhead, 1,970 feet of elevation change, an average snow-free date of June 18, and a site elevation of 10,280 feet.
