About Cub Lake
Cub Lake is a moderate Moraine Park lake at 8,626 feet, 2.3 miles one-way from Cub Lake Trailhead. Its lily pads, wildlife habitat, and position above Moraine Park make it one of the more approachable east-side lake hikes.
The route follows the Cub Creek drainage and can connect into the Fern Lake trail system. It is not a high alpine lake, and that is part of its appeal: the scenery is meadow, creek, aspen, and recovering forest instead of bare rock and snowfield.
NPS hiking tables list Cub Lake and Fern Lake as east-side hikes from different trailheads, and the trail system between them helps make this area more connected than a single out-and-back.
