About Lake Haiyaha
Lake Haiyaha is a boulder-rimmed lake at 10,224 feet, reached from Bear Lake Trailhead by a 2.1-mile one-way hike. The lake has become especially recognizable for its pale turquoise water, a color tied to fine sediment carried into the basin after the 2022 Chaos Canyon landslide.
The last stretch is rockier than the mileage suggests, and the shoreline is more boulder field than beach. It is close enough to combine with Dream Lake or Emerald Lake, but it has a different character: rougher, quieter around the edges, and shaped by visible mountain geology.
NPS identifies the Bear Lake Road Corridor as the gateway to many of the park's most visited destinations, including Bear Lake, Sprague Lake, and the short hikes toward Dream and Emerald Lakes.
