About Ouzel Lake
Ouzel Lake sits at 10,024 feet in Wild Basin, 4.9 miles one-way from Wild Basin Trailhead. Its name refers to the water ouzel, another name for the American dipper, a bird associated with cold mountain streams.
The lake is part of the central Wild Basin trail network, beyond the lower waterfall corridor and below the longer routes toward Bluebird Lake, Thunder Lake, and the high lakes near Isolation Peak.
NPS wilderness-site data also lists Ouzel Lake in the Wild Basin Area: 4.9 miles from the trailhead, 1,520 feet of elevation change, an average snow-free date of June 16, and a site elevation of 10,020 feet.
