About Twin Lakes (lower)
Lower Twin Lake in Wild Basin is a surprisingly large alpine pool rimmed with lily pads. From the lake, hikers get a clean perspective of Wild Basin with Copeland Mountain dominating the skyline, complemented by the unique spire of Eagles Beak.
There is no maintained trail to the Twin Lakes. The standard approach leaves the Thunder Lake trail near the Siskin Campsite and climbs northeast up an increasingly steep slope. The off-trail portion is short — about a third of a mile — but grueling, with fallen trees, vegetation, and slippery rocks to navigate.
Plan as a long day or pair with a backcountry permit in Wild Basin. The lower lake is the larger and more visited of the two; most visitors stop here without continuing to Upper Twin.
